Cowboy's Paradise version 5
July 10-17, 2010 words and music by Anthony David and Paula Setteducati

I'm at Hotel Flamingo in Vegas on the strip
The old cowboy came shufflin' in and next to me he sits
I knew he was a local 'cause the dealer knew his name
So we started chattin' while we played a poker game

"How long you live in Vegas? And do you like it here?"
I politely asked him as I sipped a beer
He turned around to look at me and answered me real sly,
"Twenty years in Vegas, and I'll tell you why:

Free whiskey while you're playin' poker day and night
A girl on every corner who wants to hold you tight
The sun is always shinin', and the dealer's here are nice
Let me tell ya stranger, it's a cowboy's paradise!

I used to have a family but now my kids are grown
I lost my little woman so now I'm on my own
I find some consolation in the people and the lights
I play limit poker so my money lasts all night, all night"

The dealer mucked the cards and paid in chips of blue
And I sat there thinkin' what the old cowboy'd been through
I knew he was an old man it wasn't hard to see
So I politely listened, as he said to me:

"You just can't sit and wither if you find yourself alone
You've got to be with people and move your weary bones
I like to play some poker and have a drink or two
I like to meet new people, that's why I talked to you to you"

We played until he ran down his stack of poker chips
He busted on the river so he took a final sip
Of his whiskey and he wished us a short and sweet goodnight
And he headed for the corner and the city lights

"Free whiskey while you're playin' poker day and night
A girl on every corner who wants to treat you right
The sun is always shinin' and the dealers here are nice
Let me tell ya stranger it's a cowboy's paradise!"

Free whiskey while you're playin' poker day and night
A girl on every corner who wants to treat you right
The sun is always shinin' and the dealers here are nice
Let me tell ya stranger it's a cowboy's paradise!
Let me tell ya stranger it's a cowboy's paradise!"

Description
Story Behind the Song:
I went to Las Vegas in July and met this character playing poker. When I asked him if he liked living in Vegas, he said, "Free whiskey while you're playin', poker day and night, and a whore on every corner!" I modified his words but kept the spirit of his reply.
